Gentle Cradle Cap Treatment For Your Baby

By Daniel Bo

Cradle cap treatment is a remedy to be used mostly for babies and infants to treat cradle cap. The condition can be quite an ugly skin infection that can plague a newborn's scalp. It usually doesn't hurt them nor is it contagious. However, it can be quite unsightly and alarming to anybody who has never seen it before. The good news is that it is usually a temporary condition and most times will go away on its own.

An effective cradle cap treatment doesn't have to be complicated. Nor should it be. I completely and totally believe in natural remedies. Especially when it is a baby that is being treated for a scalp disorder, natural is the best choice even more so.
If you want to get rid of your baby's scalp problem, I highly recommend only natural ingredients.

Because of the relatively harmless nature of this condition, cradle cap treatment should be kept at minimum. It should also consist of proper shampooing and gentle removal of the scales present on your baby's scalp. A very safe pre-cursor leading up to a treatment is to switch over to an all natural and organic shampoo. Doing this will eliminate any harmful chemicals found in some products from irritating or harming your infant's delicate skin.

While this condition mainly affects younger children, some older children struggle with it as well, while their mothers search frantically for the best treatment available. In the US, up to one fifth of all children of school age have cradle cap, along with about one in twelve of the young teenager population.

Here is a relatively safe cradle cap treatment you may want to employ. First, apply baby oil to the affected scalp areas ten to fifteen minutes before shampooing. This will help to loosen the scales and flakes, making them easier to remove.

You should only apply this cradle cap treatment ten to fifteen minutes before shampooing. Leaving the oil on for too long might result in a thick layer of build up that could clog pores and further irritate your baby's skin. We definitely do not want them to feel any un-necessary pain or dis-comfort. When shampooing, you may want to use a soft bristled tooth brush to assist in removing any loose patches. Remember to be gentle and use your own parental insight. It can sometimes be better to under do it instead of over doing it.

If your baby isn't responding well to the above cradle cap treatment, it may be time to visit the family doctor. In most cases this is not necessary. Though I am a parent myself and I understand what it is like to worry about your child. Especially when they are at that age when they can't talk yet. It would be so much more assuring if they could just tell you how they are feeling. So if you think it would be better to error on the side of caution and take them to a medical professional, then do so. Better to be safe than sorry and mis-diagnose the condition.

If you are going to utilize a cradle cap treatment, it is very important to first identify that it is in fact cradle cap that you will be treating. Cradle cap usually appears as an oily, yellow scaling of the upper layer of skin and a hard crusting on the baby's scalp. Commonly caused by a buildup of normal naturally secreted oils from the skin itself.

The condition generally affects the scalp, head, eyebrows, and areas behind the ears. Although it can be un-nerving and unsightly to observe, remember that it is a fairly normal, harmless and noncontagious condition. It can be treated with natural and gentle methods.

If it doesn't appear to be bothering your baby, cradle cap usually doesn't need to be treated. In most cases, it will go away on its own by age one. It can be itchy for the baby though. So it is really up to you what you want to do about it.

Although my site is more suited to teenagers and adults who suffer from dandruff and other skin disorders, I do have a book that can offer more information on choosing a cradle cap treatment To explore other cradle cap treatment options you should take a look.

History Of Baby Cribs

History Of Baby Cribs

By Ursula Ansbach

Baby cribs, being the child's first bed, have a most interesting history! The word "bed" initially means the place where a person sleeps - originally no more than a hollow in the ground. The first types of baby cribs were a small swinging or rocking bed known as a cradle. It has a long history and was typically one of the first pieces of furniture to be added to a new household.

Before the colonies were settled by Europeans, Native Americans cradled their babies in a multitude of different styles, almost as diverse as our modern baby cribs. There were bark cradles, skin cradles, lattice cradles, board cradles, basket cradles and many more. The style changed with the geography of the tribe and was influenced by the materials available for construction. Swaddling (wrapping the baby tightly in cloth or skins) was a favorite of many tribes since this was seen as a safety standard. Many Navajos still use a traditional board cradle that swaddles the baby to keep it safe and protected.

The earliest and most common type of cradle is the rocker, derived undoubtedly from a hollowed out half log to provide a secure resting place for baby. It was a simple step to move from the hollowed out log to a box mounted on transverse curved sections and a particular baby crib favorite with the early Colonists was characterized by sloping sides and a hooded end made from simple nailed pine boards.

Examples also exist of cribs that represent "great beds of state" for royal babies. These fancy cribs were richly carved and furnished with elaborate and costly hangings. Many cradles were designed so they could rock easily, with one mechanical invention claiming that the cradle would self rock for an hour and a half! Early cribs were made to be placed right next to the parent bed, since bedrooms are actually a later addition to architecture that came with the ability to heat the home more easily. It isn't known if there were any safety standards under consideration in those early days.

Once the baby was too large for the cradle it graduated to a trundle bed. The name is derived from the utility of this bed which was made to fit easily under the parent's bed and thus conserve space. Early homes were often one or two room cottages where space was a premium.

The baby crib came into existence as homes became larger, during the 1800's, and could accommodate their size. They were usually home-made and passed on from child to child, since families were rather large in those years. Baby cribs were also passed on through generations since they were constructed of solid, durable wood found locally. If you run across such a crib today you will marvel at its sturdiness. A recent trip to an antique store while looking for a crib for my new grandson bore this out. The crib was made of hardwood that had been softened by many decades of hands-that-rocked-the-cradle and gave no indication of ever wearing out.

The basic shape and design of the crib has not changed much since the 19th century although we have an ongoing improvement in design as well as an ever increasing demand of higher safety standards . In light of these present safety standards it became obvious that the lovely antique crib I found would better display a doll or some beautiful stuffed animals, than to become my grandson's first bed. There were safety issues that included slats too far apart and a design in the headboard which could prove dangerous. We urge parents to keep a close eye out for safety, both when purchasing a new crib and to maintain an existing crib. History is fun and interesting but our priority is to keep our babies safe.

Girls Baby Bedding - Should it Be Tight Or Loose?

Girls Baby Bedding - Should it Be Tight Or Loose?
By Ana Goloslawski

A lot of parents are already aware that it would be better not to make use of any baby bedding set when it comes to very small babies. On the contrary, it would be best to simply ensure that they are completely dressed in warm clothing. If you still want to make use of crib bedding sets, though, you need to be extremely careful in making sure that it is not too soft. It would also be preferable for you to use a blanket and a sheet instead of a duvet or comforter.

The top two things you definitely have to consider when looking for a baby bedding set for your baby would be your baby's overall comfort and safety. As with regular mattresses, the first thing you should take a look at is the bedding's firmness. You might be surprised to find out that babies actually need to sleep on mattresses that are firm rather than soft since soft mattresses could produce dangerous pockets around your baby, leading to a possibility of suffocation. Your baby's mattress cover has to be made out of vinyl and reinforced with nylon in order to facilitate your baby's stretching during activity periods.

Babies that are less than three months old could get swaddled inside a blanket of a baby bedding set, although younger ones that cry when swaddled or older ones would still benefit from firmer mattresses. You need to place your baby's feet firm against his crib's foot board, while the baby cradle bedding is firmly tucked into the bed's bottom. After that, you have to bring up the sheets and blanket across your baby's chest and tuck those in. By doing this, your baby will not get the chance to wriggle his way down and get his little face covered in the bedding.

You also have to ensure that your baby's mattress fits his crib perfectly. There should also be enough eyelets or vents in the mattress to let air escape from the inside of the crib. After settling on a comfortable and safe mattress in your baby bedding set, it would be high time to focus more on the baby cradle bedding. As a parent, you will have the chance to let your own personality shine within your choice of baby bedding, resulting in a beautiful and pleasing design that will serve to be comfortable for your baby. One great way to do this would be through girls baby bedding.

During their earlier years, babies are weaker and more vulnerable and ever, so you definitely need to take care when it comes to choosing the ideal baby bedding set for him. It is recommended to buy bumper pads that are firm, if you want to make use of bumper pads in your baby's crib. However, it would be even better if you simply did not make use of bumper pads.

You can also buy baby sleeping bags, if you would like, or even make one on your own. These sleeping bags are similar to sleep suits. This means that they come with cutouts for your baby's arms, as well as a zipper in front of the sleep suit. Make sure that no hood is available. Such baby sleeping bags happen to be a great solution if you are having problems choosing a baby bedding set that will not cause suffocation to your baby during the night, as well as keeping him well-protected and covered as he sleeps.

Review of Angel Line's Gliding Cradle & Loveseat

Review of Angel Line's Gliding Cradle & Loveseat
By Weng Kin Chew

On many occasions , baby cradles are a godsend in getting our babies to quickly fall asleep with the gentle rocking motion.

Creating the rocking motion with our arms and shoulders can be very exhausting after a while.

So why do so many parents hesitate when deciding whether or not to get a baby cradle?

The reason is of course, conventional baby cradles usually only caters to infants up to 6 months old. Once our little one reaches a certain size, the baby cradles can no longer be utilised. It seems a waste of money getting something that we only use for 6 months.

Angel Line's Gliding Cradle & Loveseat tries to address this issue by designing another usage into the baby cradle. With the glider mechanism, one side of the cradle can be dismantled and the baby cradle can thus function as a loveseat, capable of seating up to 2 toddlers.

This design extends the lifespan of this baby cradle, and makes it a worthwhile investment.

In addition, the overall design of the Angel Line's Gliding Cradle & Loveseat is well thought out in terms of safety, compared to other more aesthetically pleasing baby cradles in the market.

  • The glider mechanism ensures that the possibility of the baby cradle over-turning is kept to a minimum, due to the limited arc that the glider can move
  • The wide glider mechanism base ensures a low center of gravity, adding stability to the baby cradle structure
  • The baby cradle is made of solid hardwood, making it very sturdy and durable
  • The height from the mattress to the top of the cradle is a long 11 inches, making it very unlikely that our baby may fall from the cradle

The Angel Line's Gliding Cradle & Loveseat do have some negative points.

  • The cradle is heavy and not easily moveable, as mobility is sacrificed for safety
  • The design is aesthetically simple and ordinary looking, without any fancy feature
  • Choice of colours are limited

In summary, the Angel Line's Gliding Cradle & Loveseat is a sturdy and solid design that places great emphasis on safety and extension of the usage lifespan.

The safety of our little ones is paramount, and the positive advantages of this baby cradle far outweigh the inconsequential negative points highlighted.

Fisher Price - Papasan Cradle Swing

Fisher Price - Papasan Cradle Swing
By Philip Mansour

The Fisher Price Baby Papasan Swing is the latest baby product that all the moms are talking about. It claims to supply quality for a baby and an extra relief for parents, but is it worth the hefty $100 price tag ?

When it comes to choosing the right swing for your newborn baby it can be a hard thing to do because you want to make sure that you choose the right one for you and your baby. Having a newborn baby is the most wonderful thing in this life and sharing precious moments is the main goal, along with maintaining a healthy and promising future for your child.

This wonderful swing made by Fisher Price does more than enough to help your baby in the beginning development stages of life by providing a soft and comfortable liner that is curved to fit your babies features.

The Papasan Swing is not like any other swing because instead of just rocking from front to back, you can also have the option to rock your baby from side to side. Most babies prefer to be rocked side to side as this is one of natures natural comforts that many can't argue with today.

There are many more different features this swing has to offer such as the six different speeds that you can control to determine exactly how fast or slow your baby likes to be rocked, and there is a motorized toy overhead with butterflies and other cute little friends that keep your baby occupied while swinging.

Soothing music seems to be another important roll in calming a baby down and this swing covers that instantly with many different lullabies for you to choose from and it also come with a timer as well. This leads me to the next important aspect of this cradle swing.

When it comes to having more time to cook dinner for your family, or even just spending some time alone with your husband or wife, this swing allows you to do exactly that. Your baby will instantly calm down and this will also help your baby fall asleep as well.

To read some reviews of what other Moms had to say, and compare some different prices, then you can visit the Fisher Price Papasan Cradle Swing review site for more information.

What Is A Baby Cradle Cap?

What Is A Baby Cradle Cap?
By Alice Ang

Baby cradle cap also known as infantile seborrhoeic dermatitis is a crusting and yellow scaling rash found on the scalp of a baby. This can also appear in red patches.

Doctors are of the opinion that cradle cap occurs as a result of sebaceous glands in the skin which becomes too active due to some hormones which were passed to the baby through placenta during pregnancy. This causes the fast growth of the skin cells on the baby's scalp. This rate is faster than the rate of the fall of cells and therefore results in additional, skin.

As it is not caused by any infection, allergy or poor hygiene, it is therefore not contagious. In summer it may cause some discomfort to the baby and therefore to be cleaned regularly. Cradle cap is very common in infants up to 3 months, although it can occur any time up to about one year.

The easiest and safest way to get rid of this is to rub a little baby oil onto your baby's scalp. Wait for few minutes for the oil to soften and loosen the scales and then comb or brush them away. You can try washing your baby's scalp regularly using a mild baby shampoo.

But in winter months this may not be advisable. Normally this improves with time but if it still persists your doctor can suggest some medicated shampoo or cradle cap cream to be applied on the scalp. Do not force the comb in your baby's skull and you may find gaps between the craniums. Therefore try to remove the layer gently. An unwanted cot or bruise may lead to complications which you can avoid easily.

Baby Swings Review

Baby Swings Review
By Travis Olague

Swings are usually an integral part of our childhood. We still remember the wind of a hot summer day when we, soaring up, rocked ourselves. Swinging gave us a close feeling of flying. Many years ago swings were designed for indoors use, one could have it in his own garden or yard, but nowadays there are a great variety of swings which come both in windup as well as battery operated models. For example check Graco baby swings, or Fisher Price Baby Swings But no matter which one we choose for our baby to entertain him or her we have always to keep in mind that the first criterion we must follow making our choice is our baby safety. We have to be maximum attentive when we buy a swinging set for our infant, because according to the statistic data a lot of children are taken to emergencies every year for injuries which they got while swinging themselves. To avoid all those shudder accidents our task is to choose a baby swing that is safe and durable.

Swings must be safe

Purchasing a baby swing, you have to decide which one you want - a battery operated or crank model. But speaking about swings most of them on the market today are battery-operated. With either a windup or battery-powered mechanism, baby swings must be safe. They must have a solid base to avoid tipping and a safe seat is necessary as well. If the seat is adjustable, for example for a little baby who can't sit by himself yet, you have to make sure that adjustable belts cannot be released, which might cause the fall-out of the baby. A good and safe baby swing should have waist and crotch safety belts as well, which prevent your baby from sliding out. Additional safety features such as rolled towels for stability of an infant's head, will help to avoid accidents when an infant's neck or head can become trapped between the back rest and the bars.

A few words more about a swing

The greatest advantage of the windup models is that they can serve lifetime, if they have sturdy, stable frames with tubular-metal legs. And a big plus can be their well-padded reclining seats. Moreover some parents find the motors of battery operated swings noisy, because such baby swings are driven by a motor. But before buying such a swing you can test products in the store and hear the sound of the motor. You also can take your baby with you to see his or her reaction on the produced noise of the swing. It is very important for a baby swing to have quiet operation. Because a swing can have a soothing effect on your baby and dandle him or her, so it is not nice for the little one to be awaken087 with a startle while he or she dozing. A battery operated swing can rock the baby originally, using its motor and such a swing has speed controls. These variable speeds allow adjusting a certain motion for a certain situation and can be used to the baby's wish. Some baby swings can be decorated with toys to entertain the baby, which have to be easily reached by him or her.

But do remember, no matter what a super safe swing you bought a baby should never be left alone in a swing, and the swing shouldn't be placed next to any hot or any other objects, which can be pulled over the baby swing or the infant.

If you want to purchase a secure Fisher Price baby swings with very safety quality for your toddler, that can give a lot of joy to him or her, you are on the right way. We can propose lots of battery operated baby swings and crank models as well with quiet operation. Make your little one's babyhood happier with our swinging sets.

Your Little Gourmet: Baby's Fifth Month Guide

Your Little Gourmet: Baby's Fifth Month Guide
By Michelle Higgins

Baby smiled her real smiles at you and you were so charmed,
you decided nothing could be better. But baby has more in
store for you in her fifth month. Endless entertainment
coupled with increasing interest in her surroundings makes
your five month-old baby an ideal playmate.

Squeals and smiles

You will be amazed by the repertoire of sounds your baby can
produce now. She is always eager to communicate with you
with her smiles, and squeals of delight. Laugh and your baby
laughs with you. Baby babble is almost at its peak now.

In baby's fifth month, she can sit with support and haul
herself up a little bit when she is laid on her tummy. She
can pay attention to tiny objects, but it is wise to keep
such objects well out of your curious baby's reach.

More sleep, yet less rest for you

Your five month-old baby sleeps for longer stretches at
night, which means your under-eye circles might soon go
away. But when he is awake, he loves your company and wants
all your attention. His daytime naps continue and give you a
few short breaks to get that pile of laundry done.

Are you ready for real food?

Probably. Once your baby's tongue thrust reflex has
disappeared and she seems interested in what you are eating,
you might want to premiere with solids. Start feeding baby
when he neither has a full tummy nor a ravenous appetite.
The trick is to know when to begin, and more important when
to stop. When she looks disinterested and turns her head
away, it is time to abandon project cereal until the next
meal.

In baby's fifth month, she will be open to the idea of
trying out a cup. Pour a few drops into her mouth. Most of
it will probably be spilt, but the earlier you start a cup,
the fewer the spills later in childhood. A sippy cup has its
own advantages, but it might be tough to wean an older child
from a sippy.

Unfortunately, along with your dimples and your lovely
golden hair, your baby also inherits some of your food
allergies. Wheat, cow's milk, soy, peanuts and fish are
common culprits.

Feeding your five month-old baby is one of the messiest
tasks you will ever perform. The baby-on-your-lap method is
by far the most logistically tricky. An infant seat can
double as a feeding chair. Make sure you strap baby in and
never leave baby unsupervised in an infant seat even for a
moment.

Get some exercise

Most mobile walkers and jumpers are unsafe and some have
even been banned. A safer option would be an exersaucer or a
stationary walker. A baby swing can work miracles as it
calms your baby while you are occupied. But too much use of
the baby swing can impair his practice of motor functions
such as walking, crawling and cruising.

Health is wealth

In baby's fifth month, a medical examination is generally
not scheduled unless you have specific health concerns or
questions. Read all about environmental hazards that can
affect your baby both at home and outdoors. Try to minimize
your baby's exposure to environmental hazards by adequately
childproofing your home, monitoring baby all the time and
following safety measures.

Parenting is a demanding job and there are no job
regulations or specifications. Keep yourself informed so
that you know what is best for your baby.
